Our unique approach to Dolby Atmos upmixing
The upmixing process starts by evaluating the original soundtrack to identify key audio elements. Next, we separate and enhance these sounds for a multi-dimensional effect.
Rather than just running the original mix through an upmixer, we begin by working with the original stems, or ideally a multitrack version of the film if one is available. To get the most immersive mix, we ideally want to get as many unique sounds as possible, so they can be individually positioned. For the music, we separate this into individual instrument groups where possible, so a new immersive mix of the music can also be created.
If the stems aren’t available, we apply this process to the entire mix. First, we isolate dialogue and narration, then move on to music and effects. We use advanced algorithms to identify and then separate as many sounds as possible, so we are able to re-create a multitrack version of the film’s sound track.
Using Dolby Atmos panning tools, we then position sounds in a 3D space to create a realistic audio environment. Finally, the mix is balanced to meet Dolby Atmos standards.
